One thing to note is that accommodation can get very full, particularly during peak times and also during the Brighton festival (a wonderful arts festival that takes place in the city every summer).

Many traditional British seaside locations have a notorious reputation for presenting cheap, shabby hotels and charging too much for staying in them. While Brighton does have a number of higher-priced hotels with that luxurious touch, it would be inaccurate to say that the above doesn’t apply here too. It’s a British seaside resort thing, and many take it in as part of the atmosphere.

Top End Hotels

At the premium end of the price spectrum, the hotels right by the pier & pavilion tend to charge high rates. If you have the budget, try Queens Hotel, The Palace Hotel or the Royal Albion Hotel which are all packed into the very heart of the pier/pavilion region. Also closeby is the Brighton Thistle Hotel – expect to pay in upwards of £85 per person at least for these hotels, though these rates can vary both upwards and downwards depending on season and the day you visit. Cheaper rates apply during non peak times.

Medium Range Hotels

For standard travellers, it’s possible to get a room right on the sea without paying too high a price. Some of the hotels that fall into the medium category include Seafield House, Kings Hotel and Best Western Princes.

Cheap Accommodation

If you’re happy to stay away from the sea and are willing to compromise a certain element of luxury then you can stay in one of the many B&B’s that are inland. These tend not to be too far away from the action – often just a ten minute drive, yet prices can dip to as little as £30 per night. You can also use one of a couple of places that are built specifically for budget travellers and backpackers – the Baggies Backpackers and Brighton Backpackers Hostel.

If you’re travelling during the summer months, it’s really advisable to book your hotel well in advance of arrival. It can be near impossible to find decent hotels during this time on the day of arrival.
