8 million tourists a year can’t be wrong – that’s how many annual visitors the city of Brighton
attracts every year, and it’s believed according to the Brighton tourist board that almost £400 million is spent by
tourists alone (that’s almost $800m ).
Brighton is believed to be one of the top five cities that tourists want to
visit during their stay in the United Kingdom. It’s also been voted one of the happiest cities within the UK
according to a recent survey and was also voted “UK’s Coolest City” according to a YouGov survey conducted in
2006.
One thing’s for sure, any trip to England should feature Brighton as high as any other potential
location such as London or Oxford – and with excellent train and air links, Brighton is barely an hour away from
the capital.
The famous West Pier in Brighton had actually collapsed in 1975, and it wasn't until 2002 that
the pier was reconstructed.

Brighton also boasts the country's oldest electric railway (the Volks). The first ever cargo
flight in the world was also to Hove (in 1911). Sealife, is the worlds oldest aquarium.
It's no wonder then that Brighton is the most popular southern beach resort in the whole of the
United Kingdom.
