Travel Safety Tips
Travel should be fun but it isn't always because in the excitement we forget many basic rules we
live by in normal life; so it is time to remember some of these.
This often means that the memories of the holiday are tainted as sometimes the local people are
blamed for something which could have been prevented. At the extreme end you may have to spend time at the local
Police station giving statements and filling out reports. When visiting a new country, traveling safely is really a
matter of common sense because you will not be aware of local traditions or problems that are faced by
travelers.
If you ever get that distinct feeling that something is wrong, which often happens on vacation,
that is your instinct giving you a warning that you should take notice of. Always be careful about traveling with
all your documents and money if you are just going to town to see the sights or have a meal.
Take just what you need for the day and leave the rest in the hotel safe as it is better to lose
a little, rather then everything. A handy tip is to place a small amount of money in a number of locations like
bags or pockets then if you happen to lose a bag, visa card or money, you will still have something there to keep
you going until it can be resolved.
A follow on to this tip is to carry two separate credit cards instead of two from a joint
account as this adds an extra security measure should one be stolen; this travel safely tip means this way you are
not without a credit card. Some of the easiest possessions to steal are bags and cameras owing to the way people
carry them without even recognizing that they are an easy target for thieves; ensure the straps are over the head
and across the chest if you want to hold on to them.
If you are the person carrying the camera or bag, then walk away fro the edge of the road where
it is easy for motorcycle thieves to grab something and make a quick getaway. There are many ways to scam tourists
and you are vulnerable when you are on vacation so it is an easy task as these people are very good at what they
do.
It is often our arrogance that lets us become victims of theft and other deceptions because we
do not believe that anyone will pull the wool over our eyes but this is how the criminals earn their living. If you
carry a bag of any kind, buy yourself a small padlock or combination lock as the few dollars you spend will be well
worth it as it will deter the majority of sneak thieves. Some people are always losing their keys which isn't a
good idea when you are on vacation so a quick remedy is to buy a D-shackle or similar and attach it your belt or
backpack with the keys attached.
One of the biggest problems is with wallets as the vast majority of men carry them in a back
pocket and this is an easy target for any criminal so try varying your normal routine and place it in a front
pocket or similar. There is absolutely no reason why when you are on vacation you shouldn't be able to travel
safely and have a great deal of worry free fun; just stick to the points mentioned here and use your common sense
at all times.
